There are three main pollutants generated by motor automobiles and they spring from three sources. There are the hydrocarbon emissions that spring from crankcase fumes (blowby). Then, there are people who come from the gasoline system evaporation which entails the carburetor and fuel tank. The third comes from the exhaust system. Carbon monoxide in addition to oxides of nitrogen comes solely from the engine exhaust. The emissions system, then, tries to scale back the effects that these materials have on the environment.
